MemoTo: JayFrom: Zach DanfordSection #: 906Date: 4/20/15Lab: Brakes and ClutchesPurpose:The objective is to understand the workings of clutches and brakes through experimentation and know how to identify different types of both and the applications that they are used. We watched videos that demonstrated both how brakes and clutches work and do research on our own to learn in even more detail. The results of the lab are enclosed in the attached lab handouts. There are different reasons and different applications for all breaks. When deciding what types of clutch or break to get it is imperative to do the research and figure out the requirements needed in the application and as always, consult the manufacturer with any and all questions.Real World Applications:Breaks and clutches are in almost every machine out there. To name a few: Drum Breaks are usually located on the back tires of automobiles, Disk Breaks are usually on the front wheels, Band Brakes are used in chainsaws, and Electromagnetic Clutches are typically used in printers.
