The 5 th  and 6 th  grade science classes, at Valley Oak elementary, I help with have  lessons in sex education.  The information is useful, and the parents have the option of opting  their child out of the curriculum. The topic lasted several weeks and the boys are taught in the  same room as the girls. When I was in middle school the boys were separated from the girls  and the lesson plan lasted about a week. The methods are different and both have their  strengths and weaknesses. The main ways the lessons are taught are through video.  During the videos some  children choose to watch the movies while other seem uninterested. The children often draw on  papers  or whisper to their friends. The first movie watched was about male development. The  class giggled during uncomfortable moments and seemed to only half pay attention to the  movie. The following week I returned to the school the children watched a movie on female  development. The class response was the same as the week prior. The teacher has the kids
