European Expansion in the New World European Expansion to the New World was a major catalyst in shaping the world seen today. There is no way to know what the world could have been like had western Europe not spread culture around the globe like a honey bee. In a business sense, trade benefits everyone. Each party involved in the trade exchanges what they have an abundance of for something they cannot produce themselves, essentially trading value and increasing the quality of life. While there are no doubts the Europeans brought negative impacts to the New World, this period of expansion managed to bring numerous benefits to people all around the world. In any society, food plays in important role in the culture. It is what sustains life and when in abundance allows a civilization to flourish. The cross-cultural spreading of local foods between both parties has made an important and long lasting impact on the world. From the new world came many of today’s common staples including potatoes,
