CHAPTER 1 Public relations are an essential aspect of any business organization or company. Therefore, business organizations and enterprises need to lay down appropriate public relation strategies to ensure a good reputation (Solis & Breakenridge, 2009). Through public relations, companies, individuals, and business organizations communicate to the public and the media. Such communications are done by public relation specialists directly or indirectly to the target audience. Such public relation strategies include the utilization of the World Wide Web, public appearances, newsletters, and press releases. Public relations can be used to communicate with the public about new products, new offers on the market, and resolving of crises. In every industry, public relations play a significant role. CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW This chapter presents a review of the literature available on the main issues dealing with the role of public relations in the car industry, more so in times of crises and scandals. This chapter begins with situating the research topic within automobile industry field of study. Then it will be followed by a review of theories relevant to this study. T hen a systematic review of relevant literature organized in agreement with the research questions. In crisis management, one can quickly realize that numerous examples are existing in literature that shows either good or wrong practice. One of the most recent illustrates the effects of technological advancements, including the introduction of social media that have enhanced the global reach and potential magnitudes of several crisis circumstances. Some of the examples include the emission scandal of Volkswagen Company, the U.S.A subprime mortgage the led to a significant global financial crisis, and the 2010 Deepwater Horizon accident in Mexico that created an international crisis (Yaxley, 2015).
