Bell Ldrs 201 6 December 2016 Final Writing Assignment In the movie 12 Angry Men, juror 11 was a humble, polite gentleman with a passion for American democracy and morals that were admirable. His values shaped his ethical reasoning and vote during the discussion of a young man’s fate. With tempers rising and opinions on the case shifting, he remained soft spoken and polite until juror 7 changed his vote to not guilty in order for the meeting to end. As the only foreigner of the 12 jurors, he appreciates democracy more than they do. Evaluating the character and values of juror 11 throughout the movie 12 Angry Men , it is evident that he had respect for others, was passionate about democracy, and fights for what is the morally right thing to do. Juror 11 was considerate of others and remained quiet the majority of the discussion. When there was a secret ballot deciding whether or not the boy was guilty he stands up and defends a fellow juror accused of voting not guilty. "Excuse me. This was a secret ballot .... A secret ballot; we agreed on that point, no? If the gentleman wants it to remain secret". His attitudes towards his fellow jurors remained respectful as he defended the democracy at hand. Juror 11’s initial attitude towards the case was to vote guilty, but he changed his vote after juror 8 stepped out the time the old man needed to take in order to reach the door. Expressing his attitude was what he did quietly unlike many of the more outspoken men. Initially, his behavior does not reflect a moral temptation or a decision between right and wrong because he simply Hicklin 2 juror 11 did not lose his temper like the other men and remained quiet until something of value was to be spoken. Even when juror 7 was extremely rude to him about his descent he did not retaliate with anger he just remained quiet. That takes much more strength than criticizing

someone from where they are from. Juror 11 said the phrase “I beg your pardon” and was asked why he was so polite. He replied, “For the same reason you are not, it was the way I was brought up”. Another great quote is when he corrected a man who ironically said
