The officer want to conduct some type of Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST), due to the fact that he smells an odor of alcohol on the occupant of the car. The Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) “is testing given to a suspect thought to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, consisting of the walk and turn, finger to nose, and one leg sand tests” (Gaensslen & Larsen, 2013). The one leg stand test has two stages: the instruction and the performance. The instruction stage is when “an officer will provide verbal instructions on performing the test as well as a demonstration” (Fieldsobrietytest.org, 2017). The officer will then ask the suspect if he/she understands what is being asked and will instructed the person to processed.
