Kaitlyn Terzino Period 3 2/3/15 Shop Class as Soulcraft: Matthew B. Crawford establishes ideas in this piece that may be complex, intriguing, and difficult to process. He fills it with metaphors multiplied, and an unexplainable amount of comparisons. Crawford’s style is similar to that of Hawthorne from the Scarlet Letter in that both topics cease to exist any longer and the philosophical explanation and old English connotation makes it hard to describe. Crawford’s piece shows that even though vocational arts and trade schools have been eliminated, there is still room for schools to aid students who can’t find the right major for them. Crawford says that “work is needed to serve someone else’s interests”, but if teaching doesn’t serve somebody else, how can it be accurate.
