2 Impact of Business Intelligence and Analytics on Business Decision Making and Knowledge Management. 1.0 Introduction In the recent years business intelligence and analytics has gained importance due to increased pressure on businesses to improve performance. Many organizations have adopted business intelligence and analytics to improve decision making process leading to improvement in performance management practices (Hollowell, & Moodle, 2011). Davenport (2010) stated that business intelligence and analytics consists of methodologies, technologies, systems, practices applications and techniques that aim to allow executives, managers and analysts to make timely and faster decisions. According to Chen, Halale and Mahesh 2012 the cases report tremendous increase in organization performance resulting from improved decision making and new business insights. The purpose of business intelligence and analytics is to improve decision making process by providing a platform for collecting, and transforming data and that puts emphasis on analysis of the data (Chen et al, 2012). Business intelligence and analytics technologies success highly depends on integration with organizations decision process (Sarngadharan & Minimol 2010). 1.1 Analytical outputs used to provide correct and real time information to users Online analytical processing (OLAP) It refers to tools that allow users to analyze multidimensional data and navigate dimensions such as time or hierarchies. OLAP provides multidimensional, summarized view of data known as cubes and is used for modeling, analyzing, reporting and planning. The reporting software generates aggregated data that keeps the management informed about the state of the business.
