3Does Financial State of a Child’s Family affect their Development in Education?1.0 Introduction and research objectivesSchooling attainment of children is dependent on the financial status of their parents. A lot of research has been conducted to determine the effect of parent’s financial status on children’s education. The conclusion from this researches are that children from poor families or low income families have poor outcome in education compared to their counterparts who are from rich or high income families because they are generally poor. The main objective of this research is to find out whether financial state of a child’s family affects their development in education. There are several parental factors and characteristics that affect the development of a child’s education but, this research will concentrate financial status and their effects on development of a child’s education. Blanden, andGregg (2009) states that although the level of parents’ education, their attitudes towards children and other parental factors have an effect on child’s development, the financial status of the parents also play a great role in child development and achievement in education. Chevalier and Lanot (2006) concurred that having more money has a direct impact on children’s school outcomes. Therefore, increase in the family income raises the financial status of the family henceit is able to meet the education costs which directly impacts the achievements of their children in education (Shea, 2011). Based on the above literature this research will aim at finding out the extent to which increase in parent’s income affects the development of a child’s education.
