Women Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness All men are created equal, Thomas Jefferson US constitution, We the people, in order to create a more perfect union Establish Justice Domestic tranquility Promote the general welfare Do ordain Jefferson asked to write the constitution because he was a good writer Declaration of Independence, created to break away from Britain Constitution attempts to guard the declaration of independence It is different than many other democratic constitutions, Europe Our rights come from the European tradition The first generation of human rights spreads elsewhere When the constitution did not have a bill of rights, Virginia refused to sign until one was placed First generation of rights were both political and individual Right to bear arms, did not intend it to be unregulated Unreasonable search and seizure right Protects against unreasonable government intervention Political rights were also beneficial to the individual
