Jordan Wyman AP Lang Virginia Convention Essay Patrick Henry’s speech masterfully argues colonists must revolt against British control. Henry combines ethos, logos, and pathos, metaphor, allusion, parallelism, and climax to bring his argument to an inescapable conclusion. In this speech, henry uses many examples of ethos throughout to explain how important it is to fight for their rights against the British control. An example of his use of shared values is seen in the last sentence of paragraph two in his speech. “For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it.” (para. 2) By saying that he is willing to find the truth, Henry is acting as one of the people and will face reality regardless of the pain.
