Rite of Passage Significance 2 Most cultures and societies around the world have ceremonies, events, or quest's to signify the change of the end of one stage of life and the beginning of another. Rite of passage is defined as "Ceremonies such as christenings, puberty rituals, marriages, and funerals, which we hold whenever a member of society undergoes an important change in status within the lifecycle of the group" (Crapo 2013). Rite of passage ceremonies can signify many different points in life. Most popular are the rituals that are used in adolescent transitions. "The transition from childhood to adulthood -- the “coming of age” of boys who become young men and girls who become young women -- is a significant stepping stone in everyone’s life" (Pfeffer and Nuñez 2016). A rite of passage is a cultural event. Depending on what part of the world your culture derived from, is what kind of ceremony you are exposed to. Then we have ceremonies that signify the passing of a life to their after life. "Japanese culture also prescribes rites of passage even after one’s death in a tradition of ancestor worship" (Tsuji 2011). Rite's of passages are rituals and ceremonies that occur in places all over the world that do not only include the living but in some culture's they also include the dead; I will be explaining to you the importance of rite's of passages in society, the different type's of passage's, and that rite's of passage aren't just rituals and ceremonies considered for the youth but also in some cultures, for the elderly and dead. In many societies it is extremely important to hold rite of passage rituals and ceremonies. These ceremonies help to signify the next step of life. When it comes to adolescents, ceremonies held for girls are usually held to show that they are no loner girls but, young ladies, When males are concern, they usually hold rituals for the boys to prove that they have what it takes to be considered a man in their society. Depending on what part of the world you are from and what

The more tribal societies tend to have painful ceremonies and rituals to prove that the person is worthy of the next chapter in their life.
