Keshishyan Theatre Arts 101 April 15, 2015 Much Ado About Nothing Critique Theatre can help influence the way we think and encourages us to reassess our values, attitudes, and behaviors. Much Ado About Nothing is a theatrical performance that portrays happiness and true love destroyed by the twisted deception of an envious man. The play was performed at Glendale Community College, written by Shakespeare, and directed by Matt Foyer; set design, lighting design, and costume design was done by Meg Cummingham, Guido Girardi, and Royce Herron. Much Ado About Nothing starts in Leonato’s house in Messina, Italy. Leonato is a well-known nobleman who lives with his daughter Hero, his brother Antonio, and Antonio’s daughter Beatrice. The story felt offset because neither Antonio or Leonato had wives, but both have daughters. It was a little unbelievable but interesting none-the-less. Leonato is expecting a visit from his loyal friends Claudio, Benedick, and Don Pedro who are also nobleman. When Claudio and Hero first meet, they fall in love, and give a vow to marry each other. Meanwhile, Benedick and Beatrice realize their burning passion for each other. Quite frankly, I love these four characters because they are a symbol of purity in the play. Don
