C OURSE D ESCRIPTION In this class we will explore a variety of human sexual experiences, identities and behaviors—many of them will be new to you, some of them will not. You will also heighten your awareness of your own sexual values, perspectives, and creativity. The point of this class is to further develop your literacy in sexuality studies as well as improve your ability to be a good sexual citizen. My goal for this class is that you apply what you learn directly to your life so that you can make sound choices regarding your own sexuality, as well as sound responses to someone else’s. We will explore theoretical perspectives, research and practical applications on topics including: § Desire, Sex Positivity, + Sex Negativity § Enthusiastic + Legal Consent § Sexuality Rights, Education, + Research § Feminism, Social Justice, Diversity + Inclusion § Identity, Intersectionality, + Social Location § Sexual Assault, Stalking, Harassment, + Partner Violence § STIs, Safer Sex, + Negotiation § Reproductive Rights, Contraception, + Abortion § Biological Sex + Intersexuality § Gender Identity, Expression, Roles, + Socialization § Transgender Identities, Issues, + Inclusion § Sexual Orientation, LGBTQA Literacy, + Inclusion § Attraction, Fantasy, Arousal, + Orgasm § Masturbation + Partnered Sexual Behavior § Kink, BDSM, + Tantra § Sexual Relationships, Communication, + Conflict Resolution § Monogamy, Polyamory, + Ethical Behavior § Love, Jealousy, + Compersion § Sexuality + Disability § Sexuality and Religion, and § Pornography, Prostitution, + Sex Work. We take an interdisciplinary approach, including disciplines such as Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Sociology, Psychology and Biology. Some of the material in this class will at least make you blush—some may embarrass you, or make you angry— you should only take this course if you wish to read, hear, see, think and write about sexuality in ways you may have not before. Personal, ethical, and political debates are inherent to the study of sexuality. As the instructor it is my job not only to provide you with valuable information, but also to explicitly challenge some of your deeply held beliefs so that you can think critically, reevaluate them from a new perspective, and act in alignment with your own values. You have the reading schedule – please practice self-care.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
