World War II was the time Roosevelt emphasized the Four Freedoms. These freedoms to
Roosevelt felt needed to be spread world wide. The Four Freedoms were “freedom of speech”,
freedom of worship”, “freedom from want”, and “freedom from fear”. Norman Rockwell even
painted a picture of the Four Freedoms. The Freedom of Speech was of a citizen speaking at a
town meeting. The Freedom of Worhsip was of different religious members praying. The
Freedom from Want showed a family giving thanks over a meal. Lastly, the Freedom from Fear
showed a picture of a mother and father watching their child sleep. These were most American
values. They were definitely freedoms that were wanted by African-Americans along with other
Americans. The painting was shared throughout the world. I was shared at theaters, parades,
war effort rallies, and many events aimed to Americans to help purchase War Bonds. This
painting helped raise 133 million dollars.
Along with the Four Freedoms many immigrants of the early 20
th
century and their children
during World War II were now classified as loyal Americans. African-Americans even begin to
have a higher status and were given prominent places in politics.

stables, shacks or barrack type places surrounded by barbed wire. These citizens had done
nothing to harm America. America just feared them. It seems this is what many in America want
