Required Text (you must purchase immediately): The Writer’s World: Paragraphs & Essays, 4th Edition, by Lynne Gaetz, Suneeti PhadkeSpecial note regarding the computer-based classroom: Being in a computer-based classroom has many benefits. For example, Blackboard is easily accessible and many assignments can be typed instead of handwritten. HOWEVER, the major drawback of being in such a classroom is the overwhelming temptationstudents experience to "play" on the computer (Facebook, Youtube, email, IMing, etc.) instead of paying attention. This is not only rude and disrespectful, it is annoying to hear keys and mouses clicking and to see students' eyes on the screen, not paying attention to class. In light of this, all computer monitors will remain OFF unless given authorization by the instructor to turn them on. If I catch you on-line for any reason, youwill be dismissed from class and receive an unexcused absence for the day. If you do it again, you will be referred to the Vice President of Student Affairs and/or the Chair of the Communication Division in order to have a discussion on proper student behavior. Please take your education seriously – I certainly do.This class uses Blackboard. Therefore, it is vitalto your learning environment and experience that you use and regularly check the school email and check Blackboard.Important dates:Class runs from 8/23-12/15 (+ Final E, 12/15)8/22-8/29 M-M: Drop/Add Week9/5 M: Labor Day – college closed10/5 W: 45-Day census – If you have four or more unexcused absences and/or extensive missing work, you willbe reported to registration as “not participating” and dropped from the class.10/7-10/15 F-S: Midterm week1
