NURSADN 1 SPR 23 SYLLABUS(01/15/23 AL)2PROGRAM CURRICULUMA.OverviewThe San Joaquin Delta College curriculum is based upon the basic standards of competent performance of anentry- levelregistered nurse. Upon completion of the program, the graduate is eligible to write the NationalLicensing Examination (NCLEX-RN) for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of California. Graduates whocomplete the prescribed basic curriculum earn an Associate Degree in Nursing.The Associate Degree Nursing Program content is drawn heavily from the sciences and general education. TheAssociate Degree Nursing Program curriculum is based on utilization of problem solving, nursing process,critical thinking, professionalism and leadership behaviors. The Associate Degree in Nursing provides afoundation of nursing knowledge and technical skills.The experiences in the program are designed to encourage students to take responsibility for independentlearning. The content is built upon concurrent scope (breadth and depth) of educational concepts. TheAssociate Degree Nursing preparation focuses on a strong medical-surgical foundation, professionalism, andapplication of the nursing process in the various clinical settings.B.Mission StatementThe mission and philosophy of the San Joaquin Delta College Associate Degree Nursing Program (SJDC ADNProgram) is congruent with the Mission Statement, Goals, and Philosophy of San Joaquin Delta College.Thecurriculum is designed to provide an excellent educational program that integrates the needs of the nursingstudent with the needs of the college, the community, and the nursing profession.The purpose of the ADNprogram is to provide an education that is based on student learning outcomes that support the practice ofprofessional nursing care designed to meet the needs of clients who are undergoing challenges across thehealth/illness continuum throughout the lifespan.The nursing faculty is committed to provide a program ofinstruction that is responsive to cultural diversity while preparing graduates for entry-level nursing practice inthe 21stcentury.In order to best meet an ever-changing health care environment, the program will engage in a process ofcontinuous improvement in curricula, faculty and staff development, technical strategies and educationdelivery methods that best serve the needs of nursing students.
