Best Practices 2 Among higher institutions, retention and success are two words that are stressed and to remain focus on. Student success stems from many different angles. One may believe that student success is not just about crossing the finish line, but as well as keeping focus within the college setting, learning the hands on ordeal and taking that knowledge and applying it into the real world. Retention continues to focus on schools and it often is looked upon as how well that institution is doing, along with their cohort for a 5 year plan within the freshman class. Throughout this term we have researched and focused on what best practices for first- time freshmen, second-year students, and over-all students in general and what works best for them and at their specific college. Every institution is different and one best practice may work for Howard University, but it may not work for Rutgers University. I believe that demographics, learning backgrounds, and the mindset of students play a key role with the continuous learning in the education world. According to College Factual the University of Delaware has a great retention rate of 68% percent while the average within the United States falls around 35% (College Factual). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
