History Lecture 16/01/2008 12:00:00 Modern Central Asia Mongols are adept at navigating the terrain in Asia, attributed to the takeover  of Asia by this nomadic group. Genghis Khan defeated Jing Dynasty in 1211, conquered most of China by  1220. o Second campaign, 1219-21, defeated Islamic empire o 1223, gained victory against the Slavic warriors. o Mongol empire was four times Roman empire after Genghis Khan’s  death 1230s, invasion of Korea, Russia, Europe. (2 nd  phase of Mongol expansion 1258, put last Abbasid colony to death. By 1270s, Mongols had conquered all of China. Mongol Expansion: Why? Motives? Genghis Khan unified the scattered tribes of Mongols, allows these tribes to  redirect their power and violence outward of Mongolia. Genghis Khan’ vision of world domination? It was Mongol destiny to rule the  world he said. o
