EFFECT OF EMPLOYEE HIRING POLICIES ON PRIVATE SECURITY 2 Effect of employee hiring policies on private security Employee hiring policies are the procedures and process followed when recruiting new employees to an organization. The policies vary depending on the organization in question, although there exists some general policies that work for all organizations such as qualifications and ethical issues[Ste121]. People prefer to put some aspects of their lives private. However, circumstances such as employment may force them to reveal such information. For instance, employee-hiring policies require applicants to provide their information, some of which may be considered private. In some cases, the hiring process of an applicant may be terminated especially if they omit some information in their application papers[Ste121]. In providing such information, the private security of applicants may be compromised. Although the hiring policies are beneficial for the recruiting company, they may have some adverse effects on the employees. This paper explores the effects of these hiring policies on employees’ private security. Most companies especially those seeking to employ security officers require that the applicants pass background checks. This may include a check on the applicants’ driving record, financial records, past employment, criminal history, and education history. The level of background check varies depending on the individual’s responsibility after securing employment. This is important for an organization, but may affect the privacy of the applicant. For instance, some potential employees may have a dark criminal past they would not want to reveal to their employers considering that they have reformed. However, once an employer comes across such information, they may not consider such people for employment. In addition, the information about their criminal background may leak from the company to other potential employers. Such employees may find it difficult to secure employment elsewhere. Some employees also face difficulties in their working environment incase such information is leaked to their co-workers. If
