Unformatted text preview: Dealing with Date Rape in Adolescence As I sat down with my friend Kerry to discuss her own experience with rape I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I never expected to hear the things I did from a girl whose face would never indicate what she goes through on a daily basis. I told her that the book marked the first sexual experience as a transition into adulthood, she responded in her satirical way, “I got off to a horrible start huh?” She went on to explain that she had gone to visit a boy she had been seeing with friends at a college a few hours away. He was eighteen and she was sixteen he ended up dateraping her,”I was so naïve, but I have learned not to blame myself which is something that took a long time to do and definitely affected my growing up experience. My last two years of high school were the most painful times of my life, I developed PTSD and my life seemed to be crumbling all around me.” Kerry also mentioned that she felt like her life was passing her by at times due to her constant flashbacks, she says she’d do anything for them to stop and she has given up on t rying to explain how...
