Roberta Pino Eng 102-204 6/8/06 Dr. Rose Day In the short story, “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” by Ambrose Bierce and the film based on the story is about a southern planter named Peyton Farquhar, who is about to be hanged by the Union Army for attempting to destroy the railroad bridge at owl creek. The Film and story is also about what Peyton Farquhar experiences as he is being hanged. The Film and story both use imagery differently, but have the same plot and surprise ending. There are similarities and differences in the film and story on how they show what Peyton Farquhar experiences while he is being hanged. In the short story descriptions are given to show what Peyton Farquhar is imagining while he is about to be hanged and gives insight on what he sees surrounding him. Some things Peyton Farquhar imagines are about escaping from the union army and going to his wife at the plantation.
