THE MILITARY EXPERIENCE 2 The Military Experience Even though most people in the United States of America did not think that we should have been in this world war ll. What were the main causes for American involvement in the war ll? What were the major military campaigns of the war ll? Analyzing the following military campaigns North African Campaign and Italian Campaign that including the results of the campaign and overall success for the Allies and the American position in each campaign. The main causes for American involvement in the War ll were that The United States was attacked December 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor by Japan. On December 8 Congress declared war on Japan in retaliation to those lost at Pearl. By December 11 Germany declared war on us. The attack on Pearl Harbor was the turning point for the United States that helped them make the decision to enter World War II. This event happened on December 7, 1941when 360 Japanese aircraft attacked the major U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This attack claimed over 2,000 troops that day, officially, on December 8th, the United States declared war on Japan. Germany and other countries decided to declare war on the United States. The two major military campaigns of the War ll were The North African Campaign and Sicily and Italy Campaign. The North African Campaign began in June of 1940 and continued for three years, as Axis and Allied forces pushed each other back and forth across the desert. At the beginning of the war, Libya had been an Italian colony for several decades, and British troops had been in neighboring Egypt since 1882. The two armies began skirmishing almost as soon as Italy
