Date: September 21, 2016Author: Braxton Gibson, chairside orthodontic assistantProject: To provide a detailed explanation of how to apply bracesSubject: Proposed documentation for proper bonding procedurePurpose and ObjectivesIt has recently come to the attention of the Associated Association of Orthodontists (AAO) that some orthodontic assistants are only receiving minimal amount of training before attempting to place brackets on patients. Though most orthodontists hold their assistants to the highest standards, there is still a need for a basic outline of putting braces on. The proposed documentation is intended to provide new and experienced assistants with the necessary instructions in order to properly execute a bonding procedure. It is imperative to provide assistants with detailed documentation of orthodontic procedures to ensure that the practice’s high patient care standards are being met. Whether this documentation is being used to train a new employee, or simply as a refresher for a veteran assistant, having this document will only be an asset to the practice. Continuously educating assistants will not only result in overall higher efficiency ratings, but also directly decrease doctor chair time.
