Ethical Practice Batchelor An Enemy of the People clearly depicts a conflict which could have easily been resolved and more peacefully addressed. In Act II Dr. Stockmann attempts to address the town by holding a discussion in the mariner’s basement. He feels it is necessary to inform the people of his scientific findings about the local springs. Upon his arrival, his brother (his opposition), also comes to the meeting to disrupt the doctor’s plan to reveal his information. Because his brother is the mayor of the town, the people feel obligated to side with him and join together in discrediting Dr. Stockmann’s ideas. To organize the meeting Aslasken was appointed the moderator, however he primarily served as a tool to silence the doctor. Mayor Stockmann was given the opportunity to divulge a speech about his brother’s lifelong quest to challenge authority and his current interest in destroying the town’s economy. Because Aslasken gives the biased townspeople the opportunity to restrain the doctor from speaking, his data was never announced. By the
