Gender is a huge topic of conversation in sociology today because it creates structural positions in society that affect culture, institutions, organizations, and much more. The identity and expression of one’s gender in comparison with one’s sex often highlights the differences between genders, and these differences have consequences for each person’s choices and opportunities. My gender, being female, has affected multiple aspects of my life. I have seen the most impact from gender in regards to independence, education, and the workforce. Females are traditionally assumed and expected to be less successful than their male counterpart, so it is no surprise that a female’s level of independence and determination can be diminished from this discriminatory belief. Although I have not let my independence and determination be affected by societal beliefs, people have still questioned the need for my hard work. What makes this interesting is
