Working with Mac OS X: 1/15/2007 Desktop metaphor GUI, the graphical user interface. Graphics for output and a pointing device. No commands; just point or use menus. Icons are used. Purpose: make navigation through the information stored on the hard disk easier. OS X – First release in 2001. Consists of three main parts: Darwin. Mach microkernel, Aqua Darwin – Runs on an open source kernel called XNU. Integrates a number of technologies: Mach 3.0 Kernel. 4.4 BSD. An operating system organizes the resources of a computer; allocating resources, a computer program itself. High performance networking facilities and support for multiple integrated file systems. Open source Definition – Some of the ten conditions are: source code included or freely available, derived works must be allowed (Anything derived from this source code is allowed), integrity of author’s source code (Original work must be left in tack), no discrimination; personal or commercial, no other license distribution (Open source means no license required.). -
