2 Conceptual Exercises and Reflection Today we will discuss what we learned about developing and testing hypotheses. We will discuss what we learned about statistical power and controls used in experimental research. Lastly, we will determine one way a professional could use an understanding of testing hypotheses in experimental studies to help improve the functioning of an organization. Developing and Testing Hypotheses We learned that hypotheses are educated guesses about the relationship between variables. Hypotheses come from previous research, theory, or logic. We categorized hypotheses by the level of the variables specified in a hypothesis. A conceptual hypothesis is a statement about the expected relationship between conceptual variables. A research hypothesis is a statement about the expected relationship between measurable or operationalized variables. A statistical hypothesis is a statement about the relationship between the statistical properties of data (Rooney & Evans, 2018, Chapter 4).
