SECTION A 1. (a) [1 mark] for each observation (point) made up to a maximum of [3 marks] . The least populated country and most populated countries each have approximately the same small number of people per Web site. The next most populated country has most persons per Web site. Thus, there is not a corresponding increase in the number of Web sites as population increases. The use of the Web sites available within a country need not be a reflection of the in-country use; the Web is available world-wide and the sites may be used by persons not living within the country. (b) [1 mark] for each point up to a maximum of [4 marks] . Many Web sites per person can be a result of the average economic status of the population. It can mean that the country has a strong education programme to promote the use of the Web. It may mean that there are many financially strong companies available to provide Web site hosting. It may mean that there is little government regulation of the use of the web or of the sites provided. It may mean low cost and easy access to the Web. (c) [1 mark] for recognising the growth is not linear but is logarithmic (or geometric is acceptable). [1 mark] for recognising the rate of growth of business, commercial, or company (.com) sites has grown faster than the sites on other domains. Note: This data may also suggest a very rapid rate of growth in business sites in the United States that use .com. (d) [1 mark] for each different activity up to a maximum of [4 marks] . Buying products, banking (transferring funds, examining accounts), finding product information, buying and selling stocks and bonds, sending invoices, sending payment acknowledgements.
