Objective: To understand the effects of concentration and temperature on the equilibrium of a system. Part I: Changes in Reactant or Product Concentrations A: Copper and Nickel Ions [Cu(H 2 O) 4 ] 2+ (aq) + 4NH 3 (aq) -------- [Cu(NH 3 ) 4 ] 2+ (aq) + 4H 2 O(l) blue dark blue [Ni(H 2 O) 6 ] 2+ (aq) + 6NH 3 (aq) -------------- [Ni(NH 3 ) 6 ] 2+ (aq) + 6H 2 O(l) green pale violet 1. Place 1 mL (20 drops) of 0.1 M CuSO 4 in a well plate and record the color of the solution. 2. Add 15 M NH 3 in drops until the color changes and becomes clear. 3. Record observation. 4. Mix the solution. 5. Add 1 M HCl in drops until the solution becomes clear and the color changes. 6. Record the color change. 7. Repeat this procedure using 0.1 M NiCl 2 instead of the CuSO 4 and record these observations. 8. Dispose of the solutions. B: Cobalt Ions [Co(H 2 O) 6 ] 2+ (aq) + 4Cl - (aq) -------- [CoCl 4 ] 2- (aq) + 6H 2 O(l) pale pink deep blue 1. Put 0.5 mL (10 drops) of 0.1 M CoCl 2 in a well plate and record the color. 2. Add 12 M HCl by drops until a distinct color change occurs.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
