Double Replacement Reactions Background This lab’s purpose is to identify the ions in solutions and their reactions and determine if they are double replacement reactions. The purpose of this lab is to observe the formation of precipitates in double replacement reactions. In a double replacement reaction, the cations and anions in two separate compounds switch places. The general form of double replacement reactions is ax + by = ay + bx. In this lab, we will determine solubility for our conclusion. A reaction happens with a precipitate. Materials pipettes test tubes test tube rack NaOH AgNO3 Pb(NO3)2 CaCl2 Na2CO3 Na3PO4 Na2SO4 NaCl Goggles Gloves Procedure 1. Obtain your CLEAN test tubes on the rack. 2. Use the pipette specific for the needed reactant and take a few drops and drop into test tube. 3. Repeat the step with the correct pipette for the next reactant in the same tube. 4. Record the reaction and observations. 5. If there is no reaction, write NR. 6. When finished with all tubes, thoroughly and safely rinse out all tubes with gloves on. Use tube cleaner if needed.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
