United States 6 : 2.09 children born/woman (2007 est.) II. Concepts: 1) Chronologically during the demographic transition, the demographic dividend occurs before population aging. The demographic dividend occurs at the end of the demographic transition characterized by a long period of declining total dependency ratio. During the demographic transition child dependency ratios drop rapidly and fertility rates also drop. The result is a rise in the rate of economic growth due to a rising share of working age
