Patricia Selenski History 129B April 5, 2007 Professor Cohen  Online commentary: Stalin, “On the Tasks of Workers in the Economy,” experts from his  speech to the First All- Union Conference of Workers of Socialist Industry. February 4 th  1931.  (294- 295)        In the speech Stalin states why he feels that it is important to stay on course with building a  strong Soviet state. Stalin talks about the obligations to the working class people and the  peasants in the Soviet Union as well as throughout the world. He says, “No comrades, the  tempo must not be reduced! On the contrary we must increase it”. He says that this is owed to  the peasants and workers and that “to slacken the tempo would mean falling behind”. I think  that Stalin was very competitive and that he wanted to stay ahead of other countries,
