Innate behavior refers to genetically inherited things which may contribute to behavior, while learned behavior refers to a developmental process which requires a stimulus in order to strengthen the activity. About 50% of behavior is inherited while the other 50% is learned. Innate behavior could refer to traits which are an indirect result of the nervous or endocrine system’s processes. Another example is seen when birds are prevented from migrating, and exhibit migratory restlessness. Learned behavior would be something such as the pecking accuracy of chicks, or singing songs birds sing. These behaviors denote a change brought about by experience. To decide whether a trait is innate you could examine the hybrids to demonstrate a genetic basis. To decide whether a trait is learned it would involve behavior that has been strengthened by practice and experience. 39. Communication includes an action that influences the behavior of another member of the same species. Chemical communication involves the use of chemical signals called pheromones which can be used day or night. These signals can be beneficial in such ways
