Bio 205L EXERCISE 5 ANALYSIS 1. The area with the highest mitotic activity is the zone of cell division. Cells at several different stages of mitosis could be seen. I was able to see sells undergoing cytokenesis and telophase. In the zone of elongation, the cells were the longest and most uniform. Then in the zone of differentiation, there are specific functional cells such as the epidermis tissue, cortex, and the stele. 2. The zone of cell division was the component of the root-tip cells that was stained by Safranin in the permanent mount. The zones of elongation and differentiation were stained by Fast Green. The Safranin stained the nucleus of the cells that were under mitotic division while the Fast Green stained the cell walls of cells that have already developed a cell wall. 3. We saw four stages of sea urchin development. The first two stages are where the sperm and egg cells are separate. The egg cells were about 1.25 r.u. at 100x and the sperm cells were about 1 r.u. but at 400x so the sperm cells are significantly smaller than
