Argument Research Paper Draft 1 April 29, 2008 Title: Advantage of Building Wind Farms. Just try to imagine the world without electricity: horrible, isn’t it? If you have experienced a sudden power failure, you can easily feel how life without electricity would be. Without any doubt, the importance of electricity cannot be overemphasized because almost everything people use does not work without electricity. These days, most of the electricity people use is from fossil fuels due to its efficiency. However, because of high fossil fuels prices and global warming caused by the burning of fossil energy, the necessity of substitute energy is drastically increased. For these reasons, many countries are beginning to increase investments to develop substitute energies such as solar, wind, and hydrogen. Among these substitute energies, the use of wind energy is rapidly increasing each year. According to the article titled “Wind Power Continues Rapid Rise”, global wind power capacity grew 27 percent from the previous year. Behind this growth of wind energy, there are three significant advantages: unlimited energy, positive influence on the environment, and economic growth. These merits are important reasons why more wind farms should be built. “A wind farm is a group of wind turbines in the same location used for production of electric power. Individual turbines are interconnected with a medium voltage (usually 34.5 kV) power collection system and communications network. At a substation, this

medium-voltage electrical current is increased in voltage with a transformer for connection to the high voltage transmission system. A large wind farm may consist of a few dozen to about 100 individual wind turbines, and cover an extended area of hundreds of square miles (square kilometers), but the land between the turbines may be used for agricultural or Park 3 other purposes. A wind farm may be located off-shore to take advantage of strong winds blowing over the surface of an ocean or lake. A proposed solution for wind energy and
