Jackie Vereb 10/24/05 Health Care for All Writing Assignment C While reading through many articles about health care costs, I noticed that there are some articles that lean more towards a conservative position and some that lean more towards a liberal position. An example of an article that leans more towards a liberal position about this topic is the article on page 114. It is called “Medical fees critics may be unfair” and it is written by Peter H. Gott. Dr. Gott is a practicing physician. In this article, Dr. Gott defends himself (and practicing physicians in general) against the criticism that they have been receiving about the costs of medical fees. He explains that the reputation of physician’s bills might not be based on fact, and that “the cost of non-medical services is escalating far faster than physicians’ fees”. He points out that the “system” has changed and that he has to work hard in order to live comfortably. He also says that the regulations and restrictions that have been created are annoying. I felt Dr. Gott’s views were conservative because he does not relate the public’s perspective to his argument. He says that he lives comfortably and makes an average amount of money.
