Elisabeth Hauser Psyc 135/ Section 18D 2 nd insight paper April 1 st , 2008 Dementia Throughout my entire life I have lived with my aunt, Carmen. Carmen who is currently the age of 85 is a genuinely caring and loving person, who spends her entire evenings eating chocolate and playing board games with her nurse. When I was a kid, I noticed that my aunt began to forget my name as well as my sibling’s names. As I got older my aunt would lash out at my mom for getting as she put it too involved and at one point she began to yell at my grandfather who was not currently there. Eventually I sat down with my mom and tried to discuss what was going on with my aunt. She told me that Carmen had a stroke at a very early age and that she was slowly progressing through a disease called dementia. Eventually as time progressed, Carmen became progressively worse and at one Christmas dinner she became irate and agitated with everyone. As my mother would try to calm her down; my aunt would become even angrier and demand
