WWI Outcomes - Self-Determination -Definition: the right of a community that identifies itself as a nation to govern itself -Allowed groups based on nationalism to determine their own governments. -This delegitimized empires Wilson led effort to break up the Austrian and Ottoman empires Austrian Empire -Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (1919) -The treaty declared that the Austrian Empire was to be dissolved -Treaty of Trianon (1920) -Established the borders of Hungary -Hungary lost over two-thirds of its territory and about two-thirds of its inhabitants under the treaty Ottoman Empire -At the end of the war the Ottoman government collapsed and the Ottoman Empire was divided amongst the Entente powers with the signing of the Treaty of Sévres on August 10, 1920. -Led to the creation of the modern middle east -Turkish revolutionaries rejected the terms of the Treaty of Sévres Replaced by the Treaty of Lausanne which formally ended all hostilities and led to the creation of the modern Turkish Republic Weimar Republic -The Weimar Republic was established in February 1919 in Germany -The new government could not resist the demands of the Treaty of Versailles
