Lauren Faehn ANTH 2100-001 Writing Assignment #2 Natural selection, according to Michael Shermer is the “process of organisms struggling to survive and reproduce, with the result of propagating their genes into the next generation… operating primarily at the local level” (Shermer 4). The theory in itself has evolved dramatically since Ussher researched his curiosities on how old the earth really is. Nearly two hundred years later, Charles Darwin had drafted his final copy of what we know today as the theory of natural selection as a piece of evolution. The seven components of natural selection explain that through variations, competiveness for available resources, favorable traits determined through environments, and accumulated frequencies, we as creatures have developed into what we are today. These components provide the purpose of natural selection in that through these selective processes each species on earth was formed. Humans today, in my opinion, do not show signs of natural selection. Though natural
