DEMONSTRATION OF LEARNING

Option 6 - Sacraments The Holy Spirit at work in the Church I decided to demonstrate my learning by presenting my knowledge of the 7 Sacraments of the Church. They 7 Sacraments are Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, Reconciliation, Matrimony, Anointing of the Sick and Holy Orders. With this presentation I will demonstrate why each sacrament is essential to the Church and to us as Catholics.

Baptism Baptism is the sacrament that begins our new life and marks our acceptance into the church and our community of faith. Water is used during this rite to symbolize the cleansing of sin and prepare us for our journey in the Faith. Even though Baptism is usually performed on younger children , anyone with any age can be Baptized. When we are baptized we are saved through Jesus Christ and his Resurrection. It marks the beginning of our life in the Faith, when we are baptized we are brought into a covenant between us and the church, in this covenant we promise to be loving and to serve God in the best way we can. . “And Baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you – not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” 1 Peter 3:21 NRSV

Baptism Essential to Living Catholic +Nourishing us as the Body of Christ Baptism is essential for us to be on the road for salvation, when we receive the Sacrament of Baptism we are on the road to entering the kingdom of God. As the Catechism says God has bound Salvation to the Sacrament of Baptism itself! It is key in our journey to the Kingdom of God. Baptism acts like a baby step towards our nourishment and learning of the Catholic Community. Baptism is the entryway towards us expressing, strengthening and nourishing our faith. Without Baptism we would not have a formal introduction to the faith, and to other sacraments. Its the nourishing first step to the many Sacraments we will experience. “The Lord himself affirms that Baptism is necessary for salvation. He also commands his disciples to proclaim the Gospel to all nations and to baptize them. Baptism is necessary for salvation for those to whom the Gospel has been proclaimed and who have had the possibility of asking for this sacrament. The Church does not know of any means other than Baptism that assures entry into eternal beatitude; this is why she takes care not to neglect the mission she has received from the Lord to see that all who can be baptized are ‘reborn of water and the Spirit.’ God has bound salvation to the sacrament of Baptism, but he himself is not bound by his sacraments.” Catechism of the Catholic Church 1257

Eucharist The First Holy communion is also a sacrament of initiation. It is considered one of the most important celebrations in our Catholic Life because we have finally received the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. It is important that we receive our Eucharist at a more mature age when
