On September 17th 1787, The United States Constitution was signed. Despite being an extremely important document for the future of the thirteen colonies, there was a great amount ofopposition toward the new government, and those who opposed it were known as anti-federalists. Several arguments were made against this document. Those who opposed it argued that the constitution allowed too much strength to the central government, resembled the British government they had just left, or threatened their personal freedoms. All of these arguments weretactfully countered by those who supported and created the Constitution. One of the most prominent arguments against the Constitution was that it allowed too much power to the central government. Under the previous government, with The Articles of Confederation, states had a great amount of power. Each state could issue its own tariffs, and create its own paper money.
