The Mayflower Compact, established in 1620, is a significant part of American history. The document encompasses the first governmental element of the colonists in the New World. This piece of art depicts the creation of The Mayflower Compact, and all of its contributing factors. The larger scene in the painting is set in the New World, specifically Plymouth, in 1620. It shows the Pilgrims planning and creating The Mayflower Compact. This creation occurred on the eleventh of November. On either side of this scene are two smaller images. One of these paintings shows a pilgrim, engaged in work, and the other shows a Native American. These smaller paintings were most likely strategically placed, to give a sense of what caused the prosperity of the Pilgrims - hard work, and help from the Native Americans. This piece of art was painted between 1952 and 1972, by Allyn Cox. It was painted as just a small section of a large mural, that still exists in the United States capitol building today. In
