Unformatted text preview: March 6,2008 Torsion Experiment Andy Bennett, EI CE 350 Section # 1 (Reduced Format) CE 350  1  Results After the excel files were obtained, six diagrams were made for three different specimens which are the steel, brass, and the aluminum. For all specimens, the stress values were obtained from the equation ( J R T = ) and the strain values were obtained from the equation ( L R = ). After all these values obtained, shear stress shear strain diagrams and torque vs. angle of twist diagrams can be plotted. From these plots, many impotents information can be obtained. In this section, the diagrams are shown below. Also, a table that has all the important values is shown below. Figure 1 Figure 1: Shows the Torque Angle of twist relationship of steel specimen for different points. It can be seen that the proportional point is located at the top of the linear portion of the graph. The yield stress can be noted when the graph starts to be horizontal. The ultimate stress and the fracture stress are the same in the torsion test and they are the last point in the graph.
