Ben Kemper October 25, 2007 Anthro 200, Section 5 Names An Investigation of the Name “Benjamin Scott Francis Kemper” At first glance, my name may not appear to be very unique or culturally revealing. However, while my name types, or the organization of my name, may be a standard American linguistic combination, there are several interesting facts behind my name tags, or the specific words which fit into the types. My name is organized into a first name, which my parents gave to me at birth, from which stems a nickname. Next I have a middle name, also given to me at birth. Then I have a Confirmation name, which I picked for myself at the time I received the Catholic sacrament of Confirmation when I was in seventh grade. Finally comes my last, or family, name. My parents have explained to me that my first name is somewhat derived from my paternal grandfather’s name. His name was Bernard, but as a child he somehow developed the nickname “Ben.”
