November 15, 2007 Anthro 200 US-Mexico Wall While one might not expect me to be educated enough to have strong political opinions, this ignorant assumption could not be farther from the truth. In particular, the issue of immigration in this country is of extreme interest and concern for me. I own a landscaping business in central New Jersey. I employ anywhere from five to seven people at any particular time. Currently, I have two young American white boys and four illegal Mexicans on my staff. As they have no mode of transportation, and no identification, I pick them up at the train station in a nearby town, a hotbed for settling illegal immigrants from the south. These boys are the hardest working human beings I have ever seen. They get twelve dollars per hour, plus I buy them lunch, and they earn every penny. We normally work from six in the morning until four in the afternoon six days a week, laboring under the hot sun for private customers in the richer, nearly all- white areas of the county. I pay my boys in cash at the end of every week; no checks, no
