Williams Javaris Williams Ms. Bosche English 1302 15 February 2016 A New Rose: growing through the cracks Have you ever had that one pair of sneakers that you worked so hard to buy, that either you can’t fit anymore, or that are too used to be restored back into good condition? My first pair of Air Jordan's that I bought with my own money at the age of 13 meant the world to me. I would wear those sneakers to almost any place I went. I eventually outgrew the shoes which probably didn't take much time since I was in my early stages of puberty. It took me years to let go of those sneakers but it was something that had to be done. I had to let go of the past and all of the memories that were made in those shoes. Some people just can't let go of old ways and customs, similar to the character in “ A Rose For Emily.” In “ A Rose For Emily” , written by William Faulkner, Emily Grierson is a black woman living alone in a house who cannot let go of the past, especially the attitudes and customs of her father’s generation. Emily can also act as a tradition in this story. A tradition that stays the same
