A conversation with Independent Presidential candidate, Evan McMullin, and Vice Presidential candidate, Mindy Finn In recent weeks, as the 2016 Presidential election has been coming to a close, independent Presidential candidate, Evan McMullin, has been presenting his concluding thoughts in a final effort to gain public support. However, many Americans claim that a vote for a third-party candidate is a wasted one. On November 2, 2016, Evan McMullin and his vice presidential candidate Mindy Finn, spoke at the University of Utah to share why they are the best candidates for the American presidency. At the end of the forum, Mindy Finn stated, “I’d hoped that the Republican party would become more inclusive to minorities and people of all backgrounds, but it has gone the opposite direction.” Alongside this idea, Finn also spoke about standing up to Trump and standing for the “basic constitutional principles that this country is based on.” These principles, including acceptance, transparency, equality, and liberty, are the ground of the new conservative movement, introduced by McMullin and Finn. This movement, however, does not only stand up to Trump’s conservatism. It also challenged the corruption of Hillary in the democratic party and the centralization of power in DC, which has been promoted by both the Democratic and Republican parties. McMullin’s reform of the conservatism is surrounded by ideas of equality and liberty. 2
A conversation with Independent Presidential candidate, Evan McMullin, and Vice Presidential candidate, Mindy Finn Apart from the multiple core principles, equality and liberty were expressed as the embodiment of the campaign. McMullin defined equality as, “the idea that all men and women were created equal,” and then continued to say, “It’s not only about equality, though, it’s about liberty.” American citizens are at the liberty to know the workings of the government which represents them.
