Abstract Chris Collotta History 594w The following paper examines the effects of anabolic steroids (AS), specifically on the intensity of aggression experienced by users. Along with a brief introduction explaining the history of anabolic steroids and their original uses, this paper also discusses the positive and negative effects experienced by users over a short and long periods of time. Several figures have been included to illustrate the findings presented. Steroids can have several positive effects when taken properly and legally, however, when used inappropriately steroids can produce extremely harmful effects and can even be fatal.

One-step brownies. Instant coffee. Diet pills. Express trains. Microwave dinners. Let’s face it, the quicker the better. These days our culture thrives on getting what we want as quickly as possible. If we can make cooking and travel quick and easy it should not come as a surprise that we want to be able to transform our bodies just as quickly and easily. The use of performance-enhancing drugs has become extremely popular in our culture and people have found new and improved ways of marketing these drugs both legally and illegally. James Wright best describes this era as one of biological engineering where hardly imaginable forms of chemical and physical treatments are and will be used to control the development of man’s mind and body.” Despite our relatively “good” intentions to improve our bodies, rapid transformation has not proved to be the healthiest way to get there; this one concept that steroid users seem to have misunderstood. Anabolic steroids, simply put, are derivatives of testosterone. Technically these drugs are called androgenic-anabolic steroids (AASs). The term “steroid” refers to their chemical structure and the word “anabolic” refers to the tissue-building effect of the steroid (Reents, 2000). The word “androgenic” refers to those actions involving the development and maintenance of primary and secondary sexual characteristics.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
