Blackout Poem
The quote I found on my favorite page in Delicious Foods is, “After an ecstatic, tearful
greeting, in a long rambling monologue. She apologized for the weird calls, she mentioned she
had not kicked either of her old habits. He changed the subject hardly pausing for a breath
outlining exactly when he planned to come back for her, where to meet him, and at what time.
He would take them to the nearest city, he’d let everybody out at a police station, though he
doubted that the police would respond. He couldn’t live with himself” (319). In the novel the
reader understands that Scotty is a drug. Darlene ends up trying to better herself by going to a
sketchy farm with a promised job. This was supposed to give her a new job and a place to live so
she could get back on her feet. The only problem was that they were providing her with “free”
drugs. These were not free, in fact nothing was. They told her it would be a great opportunity,
